TotalEnergies began as a state-owned oil refining company in France in 1924 and has grown into one of five major chemical companies in the world by a series of mergers with Petrofina, a Belgian petrochemical company in 1999, and Elf Aquitanine, a French oil refining company in 2000.

Currently, TotalEnergies is engaged in various management activities, including oil and gas exploration, crude oil refining and petrochemical production, through bases of production and sales in more than 130 countries.
